A lot of accidents do happen with fire. Many casualties are actually reported in countries where stoves are used with log wood as fuel. People do become careless sometimes when they are having a wood burner stove at home. Careful people can avert the slightest incidence.
There are certain precautions that can be taken by the housemates or home owners. These cautionary notes also come with the buying of the wood stoves. A perfect cleaning of the stoves is considered primary. This is because prevention would be better than extinguishing the fire.
Small sparks do always fly out when the logs are burning, specially the dry ones. Whenever there is accidental fall of cold water into the burning woods in the wood burners, there is immediately sparks of hot water or burned charcoal. The same thing can happen when poking the logs. These sparks can fly out and burn the skin or dress of those who are doing it.
Some homes have large fireplaces which are also open as well as at low levels. These are especially dangerous for the kids who like playing near the fireplaces. Even old people should avoid being very near the fireplace. They can inadvertently fall while dozing off. The maintenance of the wood burner and the chimney is a very important aspect of owning a stove.
Regular sweeping of the chimney and the ash from the floor of the fireplace is required. This prevents the deposition of the creosote and soot. Sometimes these can burn and become red amber and fall over the burning wood. The burning charcoals can then get thrown around and burn the area.
Along with adequate precautions regarding the wood burners, people should also have arrangements in case of any mishaps. There should be updated and efficient fire alarm systems installed. Fire escapes should be in working conditions and should be kept ready in case of any eventualities. Prudent owners are those who have all the safety measures updated and then enjoy the ambience of the fireplace.
